Keeda Zilm
I grew up in Kingston, 250km south-east of Adelaide and whilst winemaking wasn’t my first consideration, I always had a passion for agriculture which ultimately led me to the industry. Whilst undertaking my Oenology degree at The University of Adelaide, I began working at O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley, which was the start of my love for the region. In October 2018, after an incredible 16 years at O’Leary Walker, I took charge of the winemaking at Vickery Wines where I worked alongside industry icon and renowned “old master of Australian Riesling” John Vickery. I learnt so much working with John, and I’m proud to be the custodian of his unique winemaking methods, to ensure future generations can enjoy the wonderful wines he was known for.
Winemaking is so very rewarding. From the adrenaline and buzz of running a winery during vintage, where you’ve only got one shot, until next year. To the small processes that come together to create something year after year.
With almost twenty years of winemaking in the Clare Valley under my belt, I finally took the plunge and established my own label; Miss Zilm. Boutique in size and nature, the wines capture the purity that is so unique to Clare Valley. The wines are a celebration of the dedicated growers that allow me to capture the essence of each site, and the importance of community, especially in the rural regions.
I chose simple but colourful labels to bring the wines to life. Each is the Pantone colour of the year from an important year in my life; a vintage in Burgundy, a netball grand final. You know the drill. I chose colour because it’s emotive and I believe wine should be too.
